Social Justice Week - Day 4

On Thursday hearing, understanding and facing our Loreto value of Truth was at the forefront. 5th year students and guests from Beaufort College had a talk with Fr.Peter McVerry. They learned about the homeless crisis through the various human stories about homelessness that Fr.Peter shared. Students asked questions and examined the stereotypes associated with homelessness. Sr. Anne Faren spoke to 1st year students about the importance of quality education (SDG 4). Trócaire and Self Help Africa worked actively with our second year students on the theme of climate Justice. The Greenschools team visits team 1st year students to deliver a workshop on the importance of water (SDG 6). Tree planting has continued all week with the ‘Wild about Loreto’ group. Over 80 trees have been planted on the school grounds including Oak, Downey birch, Alder, Rowan, Goat willow, Grey willow, Holly and Hawthorn to name a few. Past student Katie Smith from the Vincentian MESL research centre met with classes to speak about about her research work on social justice issues.
