Greenway Bike Week Bike Trip

This year's greenway Bike Week bike trip was, in the opinion of many of the participants, the best that Loreto Navan has had so far. This event is a fun way to encourage students to get out on their bikes more and implement more eco-friendly travel in their day-to-day lives. There were 75 students that participated in the trip this year and they cycled over 20km.

Before the trip began all the bikes were checked to make sure that the tires were pumped and chains were oiled, and so now not only have these students had a great day of fun exercise but they are now much better equipped to do so again in the future independently.

We were given an escort by the Navan Community Gardaí to ensure everyone's safety and that the roads were blocked off as we passed through Navan on our way to the Boyne Valley to Lakeland Greenway. The picnic this year was a massive success with free refreshments for everyone courtesy of Meath Local Sports Partnership and also a fun pop quiz and raffle with incredible prizes!

The day ended with everyone making it home safe and enthusiastic about more cycle trips with their friends over the summer.

Thanks to the Meath County Council sponsorship, every student received a free bell for their bikes and a free hi-vis vest for anyone who wanted one.

With Mr Corrigan's tireless efforts the Greenway Bike Trip 2026 was not only made possible but was an incredible day for all participants and continued a spectacular initiative among students which encourages active and eco-friendly travel.
